Cultural Compentency Training
The Q Center @ ACR is offering a new initiative, The LGBTQ Cultural Competency Project, to educate youth service providers about how to avoid stigmatizing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people.
The training covers issues such as:
What is LGBTQ?
What is sexual orientation?
What is gender identity?
How do I further support LGBTQ youth?
“There are many ways LGBTQ youth are made to feel invisible,” said Heather Crate, MSW, of the Q Center. “They are often stigmatized within their families, schools, and by society. This training helps agencies become a welcoming environment for LGBTQ youth.”
Cultural Competency training is made available by a $25,000 grant from the Central New York Community Foundation, and is free to all agencies that serve youth, for school, community based organizations and human service providers.
Sessions last up to two hours and can be delivered at the Q Center or at the agency requesting training. For more information or to arrange for cultural competency training, contact Heather Crate at hcrate@AIDSCommunityResources.com or 800.475.2430.
