As you may be aware, the Q Center at ACR is a safe place for LGBTQ youth and their allies to gather, share, hang out, have fun and build healthy relationships with supportive adults and peers. The Q Center offers a number of programs and services covering a wide range of activities and interests for our youth…
- Education and Support Group Meetings
- TAP (Teens for AIDS Prevention): HIV education & empowerment program
- David Bohnett CyberCenter: technology and workshops in computer literacy
- OUTArts Program: gallery space to share their experiences through art and, Arts Expressions workshops where they can work with area artists
- Youth Voice/ Politics in Action: introducing youth to participation in the political process and advocacy for LGBT civil rights
- Social events
- …and others.
You may not be aware that the Q Center also provides some basic needs for the kids and young adults who benefit from these programs….such as healthy snacks/food/meals and transportation. For various reasons, some of our young participants just do not get the proper nutrition all the time. And, some can’t always secure transportation from family or friends to the Q Center and may need to take a taxi. Lost funding is impacting what can be provided for these kids. One way to help with this is our Sponsor a Child for a Year initiative.
Sponsoring a child for a year would go a long way in helping to keep him or her involved in important services and programs at the Q Center that support their growth and development. Supporters like you can help make the Q Center successful….to continue and expand programs to help provide a stable future for these kids.
