Sled for RED results
By every measure, the first-ever Sled for RED was an enormous success, raising more than $9,500 for ACR’s youth HIV/STD prevention programs and attracting dozens of new supporters to the agency. “We had a blast!” said Development Director, Carrie Large. Snow squalls blew out of the dark sky as sixteen cardboard sleds raced down the tubing slope at Four Seasons Golf and Ski Center on Saturday evening vying for prizes.
Team “The Law Sharks” winning with a time of 22.1 seconds – a very close win with sled “Cool Runners,” created by the Port Byron Teen AIDS Task Force chapter, close behind at 22.8 seconds.
“The Jamaican Bobsled theme was an easy choice given the nature of the race and the fact that the three students involved in the construction are all members of the school track team," said John Mulcahey, who supervised the weeklong sled construction.
"The excitement level leading up to the event was incredible and now, even after the event, is generating some pretty wild ideas for next year's sled - it almost makes me look forward to winter!!”
SU Starbucks came in last in time, but first in the mind of judges who ranked it the Best Decorated sled.
