AIDS Community Resources:
AIDS Community Resources (ACR), a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 1983. Its mission is to respond to the AIDS epidemic by working to: prevent the incidence of HIV infections; enhance the quality of life for people infected/affected by HIV/AIDS;
collaborate in communities to address HIV/AIDS related needs in the Central, Northern, and Mohawk Valley regions of New York State;
facilitate access to available resources; and end discrimination.
Where the Money Goes:
Teen AIDS Task Force (TATF): This teen-centered peer leadership program focuses on topics such as self-esteem, healthy relationships,
drug and alcohol prevention, healthy nutrition, and promotion of sexual health and safety. Funds raised will also support our DIVAS
(Discovering Important and Valuable information About Self) program, an after-school program targeting at-risk African-American and Hispanic
adolescents. These programs reach more than 6500 youths per year.
Q Center:
The Q Center has a mission to promote health, safety, and empowerment for high-risk young people. It is a safe place for LGBTQ youth and their allies, ages 13 – 22, to gather. The Center offers educational and social events, HIV education and testing, a state of the art Cyber Center with computer literacy classes, drop-in counseling, the “Express Yourself” Arts Program, and tutoring. It is an expensive undertaking, but one that is vital to the health of young people.
Emergency-Basic-Human Needs:
An ongoing stabilization initiative that provides HIV-infected individuals and their families with food, personal care items, household items, and clothing during critical times.
